Spring Flowers 2016

Spring flowers were sprouting on time this year and maybe a bit early.
Crocus

Tulips  - these are out in a lot of sun so were earlier than others

I put up a new trellis for my clematis today that I have been needing the last couple of years as it was getting taller each year. The photo on the right is from last year where the old trellis only goes about three-quarters of the way up. Two years ago it got top heavy and the entire thing fell forward. So last year I strung some twine from the top of the trellis to the top of the garage for it to grab onto. It worked good but it was time for something better.

I also spent quite some time weeding this area of my gardens. They have gotten out of control already. It seems so early in the season but my goal is to do better than last year and keep the gardens looking nice. Maybe there were too many left over from last fall. By the time that time of year comes around, I am tired of yard work and things just don't get done. I'm debating about putting mulch in this area to help.
Daffodils are now blooming.

This is the next area I'm going to work on. It has a lot of grass growing right in the middle of plants. It's going to be quite the job because I'm going to dig up about half of the plants to thin them and then replant.

I love spring gardening because everything is new and fresh....and I haven't gotten tired of yard work in general.

Clematis

I think my clematis is my most favorite of the flowers in my yard.
It takes just a little work to make sure it climbs the trellis.

Last year it got too heavy at the top of the trellis and tipped over. So this year I strung some twine from the trellis to the overhang of the garage. Just perfect for it to keep climbing.

Beautiful!

Summer 2014 Flowers

I just realized that I haven't posted any pictures of my flowers since early spring.

Late blooming daffodils.
After a rough winter, I wasn't sure my roses were going to survive, but they pulled through.

Not a very good picture of my clematis. But once again this year, it looks great!

And then this happened during a thunderstorm while I was out of town. It's not connected to the house, but I've never had a problem with it before.  The trellis isn't tall enough but most years I get it to climb back down instead of being top heavy like it is this year. But I got it staked up, and it's good as new.

More roses.

And lots of beautiful lillies.

Spring Flower Cleanup

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been busy cleaning out the flower gardens.
A few yellow crocus were blooming.
I sure hope the roses perk up. They're not showing any signs of growth yet.
I got all the weeds pulled and some Preen put down.
And then I got the fence back up to keep the rabbits out.

This garden needs a lot of weeding and thinning out, but I'm waiting for things to get bigger before I start digging.

And then the snow came two days later!
And today the daffodils are finally blooming. The tulips won't be far behind.
