Flashback Friday

A trip back in time

Happy Birthday, Aunt Diane! I've been saving this picture just for the occasion of Flashback Friday, and your birthday fell on the perfect day this year. But at least you're not alone in the flashback. Someone else is styling the red pants...oh, and that cute little girl!

Refinished Nightstand/Storage

I found this nightstand at a friend's garage sale and just knew a little bit of love would make it good as new again.

I sanded it down...
...and gave it a couple coats of primer.
Then it got a couple coats of glossy white paint and a couple new handles, and it was done. There were some really great knobs in Hobby Lobby, but I didn't take the time to fill in the holes and then drill a single hole for new ones. Just trying to keep it simple....oh, and maybe because I don't own a drill. :-)
I also debated about what color to paint it. The sky's the limit on colors, but since I needed more fabric storage space in my sewing room, I stuck with plain ole white to match the rest of the storage in that room.

Flashback Friday

A trip back in time

Happy Birthday, Uncle Gene. I looked and looked for a picture to better reflect Flashback Friday and couldn't find anything from back in the day. I wanted something with the two of us, but I guess this will do!!

Christmas Table Runners

Note: I found this post in my drafts having completely forgotten I had started it a few months ago.

After Christmas I stocked up on sale fabric for some projects I want to do this year. I found this table runner pattern at From the Blue Chair. I ended up making smaller blocks than she did.
This was the first project I started on but others have gotten completely finished before these and blogged about.
I started with some squares and made them into half-square triangles.
After getting them made, I squared them up and made them into pinwheels.

Then it was time for the layout. I added some white squares too. Sewed them all together and added the borders.
I made enough pinwheels to make two at the same time.
I'm going to teach myself how to quilt with my sewing machine so I can do these smaller projects myself. Note: Since I started this post, I quilted and bound them so I added a couple new pictures.

Summer 2014 Flowers

I just realized that I haven't posted any pictures of my flowers since early spring.

Late blooming daffodils.
After a rough winter, I wasn't sure my roses were going to survive, but they pulled through.

Not a very good picture of my clematis. But once again this year, it looks great!

And then this happened during a thunderstorm while I was out of town. It's not connected to the house, but I've never had a problem with it before.  The trellis isn't tall enough but most years I get it to climb back down instead of being top heavy like it is this year. But I got it staked up, and it's good as new.

More roses.

And lots of beautiful lillies.

Baby Boy Quilt

A few weeks ago I whipped up a baby boy quilt for a friend at work. I had the top done in plenty of time, but then I found out her baby shower was going to be before the baby was born so I needed to really get moving.
I stuck with my usual pattern. It's quick and easy. I used flannel this time since I'd found this cute fabric.
Put it on the frame and tied it...
...and bound it.
After the baby is born, I told her I'd put his name on it.

Spring Flower Cleanup

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been busy cleaning out the flower gardens.
A few yellow crocus were blooming.
I sure hope the roses perk up. They're not showing any signs of growth yet.
I got all the weeds pulled and some Preen put down.
And then I got the fence back up to keep the rabbits out.

This garden needs a lot of weeding and thinning out, but I'm waiting for things to get bigger before I start digging.

And then the snow came two days later!
And today the daffodils are finally blooming. The tulips won't be far behind.
